Does it cool a decently sized room?
Yes, it does so reasonably well. But the odd thing is the cooler temperature is only 17 degrees Celsius. Our other air conditioner goes way colder so you could really chill out a large space. The Arctic King with a cooling capacity of 350 cubic feet per minute (CFM) would take a little longer to cool a space of about 350 square feet. And even then, I’m not sure if it could completely cool a space of about 450 square feet.
For our purposes in Vancouver, BC where temperatures rarely exceed 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit), it works well enough. So we’re happy with it.
It also works well for cooling off an office that is 445 square feet. However, if it were really hot outside, I don’t know if it could keep up with the heat. Because the minimum temperature is set at 17 degrees Celsius, I think it might be too cold for some people.
Is it easy to set up?
It’s really simple to install. Just fit it into your window without cutting anything. But of course, if it doesn’t fit you may need to do some cutting.
Does it look good?
Portable window ACs sit in rooms, and they’re often placed in the corner of the room. They may also be placed in the center of the room, but if so, they’ll probably be covered with something else. An AC company might get creative and make them into tables, but not the ArcticKing. It doesn’t look bad. It looks like an air conditioner.
Is it quiet?
Yes, this is an air conditioner that isn’t quiet. However, if you’re seeking a quieter unit, this one won’t be right for you.
My other air conditioner was not quite as noisy as the Arctic King. It did not have the same power as the Arctic King.
Does it come with a remote control?
Yes, it does. However you can also just use the power button and adjust temperature on the ac itself.
Does it sync to smartphones with an app?
No, it does not. This is not a hi-tech air conditioner. It is simple, which is why I love it. I did not have to think about how to set it up or make it work. I simply pushed the switch, lowered the temperature and was enjoying a cool room within minutes.
Pros
Durable and long‑lived: I love that the Arctics keep on running for years. We only run them for a few weeks each summer, but during those weeks they run plenty.
It works really well: This device is powerful enough to cool down a room quickly. Like I said, it‘s a real work horse.
Simple: This is an easy-to-use AC. I love it because it doesn’t require any apps, Bluetooth, or fancy features. Just plug it into my wall socket and press the power button. It turns on, blows cool (but not freezing) wind, and lasts long.
Price: It’s not an expensive AC unit. You can spend less, but you can also spend a lot more. For the price, I couldn’t be happier.
Cons
It’s loud. This is not a quiet air conditioner.
Coldest setting is 17° Celsius. I wouldn’t mind it colder sometimes just to cool the room faster. This, I believe adversely affects how well it can cool rooms in very hot heat.
